Victor Lindelof has very specific plan for his future, says Fabrizio Romano, and Manchester United might not like it

One Manchester United star is determined to hold out for an important move and not settle for anything less.

Victor Lindelof has fallen down the pecking order after the arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt at the centre-back position.

The Sweden international has just one year remaining on his contract, which gives United an extra incentive to try and cash in on him this summer.

Gianluca di Marzio reported last week Fiorentina were keen on a move for Lindelof. No bid has yet been made.

Victor Lindelof latest

Fabrizio Romano has explained Victor Lindelof is in no rush to leave Manchester United and that a Fiorentina move is ‘not advanced’.

Speaking to The United Stand via YouTube, Romano explains Lindelof wants to make an important move next in his career, and won’t jump into the wrong decision.

He explained: “Lindelof is not desperate to leave Manchester United. It has to be for a big opportunity, big, big club.

“He was on the list of Atletico Madrid, Inter, and several others clubs [last year], and Man United never wanted to let him go, and Erik ten Hag always wanted to keep him in the squad.

“Now Lindelof, with one year left on his contract is not going to accept something that is not 100 per cent what he really wants, otherwise in January he can agree to sign with any club in the world.

“This is why Lindelof will take his time, not desperate to leave, unless there is a good opportunity at an important club.

“I don’t think 100 per cent Lindelof will leave Manchester United.”

Lindelof one of Manchester United’s longest serving players

Victor Lindelof has been at Manchester United since 2017 when he signed from Portuguese side Benfica.

He has made 259 appearances, the third highest in the current Manchester United squad behind Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, a long way behind the club’s all-time appearance leaders.

Lindelof started only 14 Premier League games last season and if he stays, he might not even start that many.

If he wants to dig in and see out his contract, United only have themselves to blame, after deciding to trigger the extension in Lindelof’s deal earlier in 2024.
