Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an emotional interview following his departure from Manchester United.

It was a rare step to take but Solskjaer is a legend of the club and reflected his desire to ‘leave through the front door’.

Solskjaer was the man who brought Raphael Varane to Old Trafford and the French international has given an interview to the Times where he has discussed the former United boss.

He directly referenced that interview and said that it showed Solskjaer’s strength and said that he has the same honesty about him as former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

“I spoke with him before signing here. He’s a very good person and humble with important values and in the short time here he taught me a lot of things, values and a lot of things about the club, the mentality of the club,” said Varan about Solskjaer.

“He represents a lot of things of this club: very respectful, humble. He always tried to do his best. Sometimes when you speak about something sensitive, it’s like a bit negative because it’s like a weakness. But it’s not true. It’s a strength.

“Because when he speaks with a player, he’s honest. It’s important to manage and for leadership to be honest with his players and specially this point it’s similar with Zidane.

“Maybe that’s why I like this feeling. It was a short time working with him but I learn a lot.”

It seemed that Solskjaer had good personal relationships with most of his squad before he was sacked and Varane was one of them.

Now, when he comes back from injury, he will be working with Ralf Rangnick, United’s new interim manager.

Varane’s pace could be important if Rangnick decides he wants his United side to play with a higher line, which is what he has done at most of his other clubs.

The Frenchman remains injured but should return later this month, when Rangnick’s reign and the frantic programme of December fixtures will be well underway.
