Manchester United held a training session on Monday with the starters against Everton getting more of a rest.

Less than 24 hours after the win over Everton, Manchester United’s players were back at Carrington. Although, for the 11 starters, there was no sign of them on the grass for the rainy training session.

Instead the substitutes were out, joined by 11 youngsters from the academy, making up the numbers, and also preparing for their own UEFA Youth League game against Galatasaray this week. The following players featured:

• Raphael Varane
• Aaron Wan-Bissaka
• Sergio Reguilon
• Donny van de Beek
• Hannibal Mejbri
• Altay Bayindir
• Facundo Pellistri

Isak Hansen-Aaroen among youngsters training

Among the 11 youngsters, we are including Joe Hugill, who made the bench for Manchester United against Everton, but is yet to play a single competitive minute for the first team.

Dan Gore, who has, was involved along with Isak Hansen-Aaroen, who were part of the FA Youth Cup winning midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo in 2022.

Both Gore and Hansen-Aaroen have a chance to make it at Manchester United, even if it means taking a less direct path.

There were lots of notable names involved, including promising 17-year-old striker Victor Musa, who bagged a hat-trick in an under-18s win over Blackburn earlier this month.

Manchester United youngsters can take inspiration from Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo made his first Premier League start for Manchester United last season, but if not for injury, it would have happened sooner.

The teenager grabbed Erik ten Hag‘s attention on the winter tour of Spain last December, scoring in a friendly against Cadiz minutes after coming on. But the manager would have seen what he was capable of in training beforehand.

The Dutchman showed at Ajax that he will give chances to young players, and they can take inspiration from Mainoo’s rise.

For his FA Youth Cup winning teammates like Rhys Bennett, Dan Gore and Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Mainoo’s success will hit particularly close to home. They have a chance to carve out a role under Ten Hag too.
