Following his dazzling international exploits, Manchester United loanee Facundo Pellistri missed Alaves’ La Liga clash due to muscle fatigue.

The 20-year-old grabbed the headlines during the international break following his eye-catching assist to set up Uruguay’s second goal in the 4-1 win against Venezuela.

Despite enduring a frustrating season-long loan spell in Spain, Uruguay boss Diego Alonso showed great faith in calling-up the United youngster for the World Cup qualifiers.

The former Penarol man started both of the two-time World Cup winners’ CONMEBOL qualification matches.

Despite returning to Alaves training on Thursday following his international commitments, Pellistri missed yesterday’s trip to Elche due to muscle fatigue from his international matches and trips, according to AS.

Although the former Newcastle striker Joselu gave José Luis Mendilibar’s side the lead, Alaves eventually lost 3-1 which extended their wait for a La Liga win to 11 matches.

Alaves are currently 19th in La Liga, six points off safety having played a game more than Mallorca, who currently sit 17th.

With 15 La Liga games left to be played for Alaves, Pellistri will be hoping his international breakthrough benefits his club fortunes.

Since Mendilibar replaced Javier Calleja as the Alaves manager in December, Pellistri has only been given five minutes of game time in La Liga.

The speedy winger will be hoping to return for next Sunday’s home clash against Valencia and carry his influential international performances into club level.

Uruguay boss Alonso has already shown that Pellistri doesn’t need to be playing regularly for Alaves to warrant a place in his international squad.

But with Uruguay’s two remaining World Cup qualifiers taking place next month, United’s Facundo Pellistri will be hoping to build on what has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for the youngster.
