United wonderkid Amad may have to remain patient during Rangers loan

After a perfect start to life at Rangers, Manchester United wonderkid Amad Diallo may have to remain patient during his loan spell.

It only took the young Ivorian five minutes to score on his debut for the reigning Scottish champions away at Ross County.

But on a chastening evening for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side last Wednesday, which saw them trail their fierce rivals Celtic 3-0 at half-time, Amad was one of three players to be hooked at half-time.

The 19-year-old came off the bench to play the last five minutes of Rangers’ 5-0 win against Hearts on Sunday.

But in last night’s 2-0 win against Hibernian at Ibrox, Amad was an unused substitute.

However, with a Scottish Cup last-16 tie to League Two side Annan Athletic to come on Saturday, Amad could earn a recall as van Bronckhorst rotates his side.

But with Rangers’ Europa League double header against Borussia Dortmund looming and the Ibrox side engulfed in a title race, Amad is going to have to impress and seize his opportunities whenever they come.

Scott Arfield has started Rangers’ last two games on the right-hand side, Amad’s favourite position, and although the Ivory Coast international was signed on loan until the end of the season following Ianis Hagi’s season-ending knee injury, it looks like the former Burnley man Arfield is currently the favoured right-wing option for van Bronckhorst.

Joining a big club that was challenging for trophies on multiple fronts and is packed with attacking talent always meant that Amad Diallo wasn’t guaranteed to be an automatic starter.

But after getting off to a lightening start up north, the talented youngster needs to produce a timely reminder of his qualities to van Bronckhorst on Saturday.
