United loanee Dean Henderson shortlisted for Premier League POTM award
A string of impressive performances for goalkeeper Dean Henderson has seen him shortlisted for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award.
Manchester United loanee Henderson is in his second season at Sheffield United. It’s been a largely successful move so far and one that could help Henderson challenge David de Gea at Old Trafford in the future.
Henderson nominated for award
Henderson has made it no secret that he is eager to become United’s first-choice shot-stopper, thus displacing de Gea. Aged just 22, his future is bright, it’s simply a matter of whether that future is at United or elsewhere.
Either way, his value and reputation are soaring while in action for Sheffield United in the Premier League. He conceded just one goal in the whole of October. Two clean sheets helped him be nominated for the Player of the Month award. He’s the only defensive player on the shortlist.
22-year-old Henderson loved by Sheffield United supporters
The success of Henderson while on loan will delight United fans. He’s an extraordinarily confident character who has drawn the love out of fans at a number of clubs already.
WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.
Henderson’s first two loan spells were at Grimsby Town and Shrewsbury Town. Supporters of both clubs were enamoured with the young goalkeeper. He’s passionate and arrogant, hence a number of rival fans who already dislike the Englishman.
Already this month, Henderson received his first call-up to the senior England squad. A catastrophic error for Sheffield United against Liverpool in a 1-0 defeat did not jeopardise that, he responded superbly. Henderson would cap off a fantastic month by being crowned as Player of the Month.
Fans of both Manchester United and Sheffield United can vote for Henderson in the Player of the Month award. He is coming up against a number of attacking players who dominated the goalscoring charts of October. Jamie Vardy of Leicester City has netted consistently throughout the month and may be the public’s pick for the award.
What about Henderson’s United future?
David de Gea signed a new long-term contract at United this season. The Spaniard reportedly wants to end his career at the club now. Of course, it will be a very long time before he’s even considering retirement.
Henderson is ambitious and driven and won’t wait around long for a first-team chance at United. He’ll be looking to get into the team next season.
However, it is possible that United will look to send him out on loan again. If Sheffield United avoid relegation from the Premier League, it could be a move that works for both parties once again. Henderson has enjoyed his time at the Blades so far and the fans and coaching staff love him.
It would give him another season of Premier League football and potentially establish him as one of the league’s best. In that scenario, Henderson would either return to United and challenge for the number one spot or earn a move to another big club for a big fee.
