Manchester United’s imminent move for Edinson Cavani divided opinion when the news broke over the weekend he would be signing.
The Times reported Cavani was set to undergo a medical before completing his move to the club, which is expected to be finalised today.
There have been questions as to whether Cavani is a panic buy, and if he is still at 33, the player he once was.
The answers to those queries will become clear in due course. But right now, Cavani is exactly what United need.

Martial struggling and suspended
Anthony Martial faces a Premier League suspension after his red card.
This means Cavani will need to get up to speed quickly to make his debut after the international break against Newcastle.
A little break may do Martial some good. While he won United’s first minute penalty, he has not been playing well.
Martial has not scored in United’s opening three league matches. He has not looked close to doing so either.
An even worse statistic is that Martial has not registered a shot on target in three games.
With 23 goals last season, we know what Martial is capable of. Right now we know he is under performing.
Ighalo viewed as not good enough
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown what he thinks of Odion Ighalo in the last two league games.
The Nigerian striker was not even named on the bench for this fixture.
Ighalo has had two chances in the Carabao Cup, and failed to register a shot on target in either.
He is not the answer for United and never really was. He has scored just once for the club since June.

Third option needed
Martial and Ighalo’s current limitations underline how much a new striker is needed.
Cavani really is the perfect player to come in and energise the forward line right now.
He has a presence about him and his experience and reputation alone will make defenders wary.
Even just as a short term fix, Cavani can give United a boost, especially with the tough run of upcoming games.
United need an experienced forward to come in right now and take some pressure off the frontline. For this reason, Cavani is the perfect solution.
