United fans react to Van de Beek's interview with Ferdinand

Donny van de Beek has given an extensive interview to former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

Van de Beek spoke to Ferdinand’s Five YouTube channel about the difficult start to his United career.

The Dutchman spoke about his lack of gametime, saying: “It’s not easy if you are playing, also not for the confidence and everything. I train really hard every day.”

He also commented on Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, which has only increased the competition for places in the United ranks.

There was also discussion about the positions van de Beek can play in, among other subjects too.

Van de Beek deserves credit for being so forthright about his situation and taking the interview on.

His attitude towards forcing his way into the United side has been exemplary.

He is still working hard and waiting patiently for his chance, which should come with a run of six United games within 18 days in the not too distant future.

Many United fans took to Twitter to react to the interview, which comes during an international break where van de Beek hasn’t been selected by Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal because of his lack of gametime.

There was plenty of praise for how well the midfielder spoke about a situation which has not been easy for him.

Others are hoping he gets a chance he gets an opportunity to show what he can do in the matches ahead.
