Marcus Rashford provided his seventh assist of the season for Manchester United against Liverpool as he set up Mason Greenwood’s strike.

Already he has equalled his assist tally from last season, and is just two short of Bruno Fernandes this campaign.

There was more to Rashford’s assist than just measuring it in statistical terms. The pass in itself was a thing of beauty.

Receiving the ball just over the halfway line, Rashford set a lightning quick counter attack in motion by seeing Mason Greenwood’s run on the right and picking him out perfectly with a cross field pass.

To have the vision to see Greenwood’s run, and to know where his teammate would want the pass played is one thing. To be able to exquisitely execute the pass is another.

The combination of all of these factors had fans comparing Rashford’s assist to the type of passes Paul Scholes used to pull off on a weekly basis.

Others likened Rashford’s pass to Wayne Rooney, who frequently played out on the left for United and had success switching the play out to the right.

Rashford’s passing is a side of his game which goes under appreciated. Assists like this will help with that.

The United forward added to his day’s work by scoring United’s second goal, with Greenwood repaying the assist.

This season he is already up to 15 goals, closing in on last year’s total of 22.
