Two Manchester United players named in BBC Team of the Week

Two Manchester United players have been named in the BBC Team of the Week after the New Year’s fixtures.

Manchester United won 1-0 away at Wolves after a Marcus Rashford winner and finish the weekend in fourth place.

United leapfrogged Tottenham, who lost to Aston Villa, and also have a game in hand on the fifth placed side.

Newcastle are in third place, two points ahead, but have played one game more than Manchester United.

BBC Team of the Week

Marcus Rashford was the one player named in the BBC Team of the Week after the win over Nottingham Forest.

Rashford missed out this time despite his winning goal, with two teammates making it instead.

These were goalkeeper David de Gea and defender Luke Shaw, who featured at centre-back. Both players had key roles as the Red Devils kept a clean sheet at Molineux.

Pundit Garth Crooks said of De Gea: “De Gea didn’t go to the World Cup with Spain and it looks like he’s benefited from the rest,” after praising his crucial save from Raul Jimenez.

He also hailed Shaw’s contribution, commenting: “I knew Luke Shaw was quick but I hadn’t seen the defender put himself on the line in quite the same way as he was having to do in his new central role.”

United are next in action in the Premier League on Tuesday night against Bournemouth, before facing Everton in the FA Cup on Friday night.

The Carabao Cup quarter-final against Charlton then takes place the following Tuesday, with all three games at Old Trafford.

After that United host Manchester City in the Premier League, before visiting Arsenal a week later.
