Two Manchester United stars took their rightful places in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week after their respective performances against Liverpool.

Ruben Amorim’s men travelled to Anfield on Sunday evening and Manchester United bagged an important point from their clash with Liverpool.

The Red Devils had signed off 2024 in a terrible run of form after losing four matches in a row across all competitions in December alone.

United have not won a match since their 2-1 Premier League comeback victory against Manchester City at the Etihad last month.

However, Ruben Amorim’s side came close to snatching all three points after their strong showing against Liverpool in Sunday’s 2-2 draw.

Lisandro Martinez broke the deadlock for United in the second half after Bruno Fernandes played him through and the defender produced a superb finish.

Liverpool hit back with an equaliser through Cody Gakpo before Mohamed Salah buried his penalty past Andre Onana to put the Reds 2-1 up in the second half.

However, Amad Diallo came to the rescue for United after Alejandro Garnacho set up the Ivorian attacker for the Red Devils’ crucial equaliser in the 80th minute.

Two Man Utd players in Team of the Week

Manchester United are 13th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are seven points clear of 18th-place Ipswich Town after their draw on the weekend.

Ruben Amorim’s side have fallen 13 points behind fourth-place Chelsea in the race for the top four and United’s form has been hit and miss in the league this season.

United have only managed six Premier League wins from their 20 matches so far in the 2024-25 campaign, with the Red Devils suffering nine defeats.

WhoScored on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, shared its Premier League Team of the Week and included two United stars.

Lisandro Martinez’s impact against Liverpool earned him a place in the backline of the team and the United centre-back was awarded an 8.16 overall score.

Bruno Fernandes’ stunning display at Anfield also ensured that he slotted into the midfield of WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week.

The 30-year-old United captain had the third highest score in the team thanks to his 8.55 overall, with only Bryan Mbeumo and Raul Jimenez bettering his score.

Amorim on Man Utd result

Amorim admitted that United should feel “really disappointed” after managing only a draw against Liverpool and believed that his side should have won at Anfield.

“I think we should get mad and disappointed more than Newcastle and Nottingham Forest,” he said after the match, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Today, we need to be really disappointed. I have to calm down and say the right things.

“We’re in a difficult moment but it’s hard to not get really mad. I’m happy for the performance.

“I’m not happy for the result but I’m really mad because of the other games. Sometimes, it’s like that, everybody is angry with my players and I have to do the opposite.

“Today, everyone will say they did everything right, and I am allowed to be upset.”
