Manchester United fans singled out Bruno Fernandes after his return to the starting XI and performance against Liverpool in the thrilling 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.
The Red Devils travelled to Anfield for their first match of 2025 and Ruben Amorim’s men had lost their last four fixtures across all competitions ahead of the Liverpool test.
Manchester United were outclassed by Newcastle in their last match of 2024 at Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim’s side bounced back against the Reds.
The Red Devils went into the break with a 0-0 scoreline before Lisandro Martinez broke the deadlock for United early in the second half with a stunning finish.
However, United’s lead only lasted seven minutes before Cody Gakpo pulled Liverpool back in the contest and cancelled out Lisandro Martinez’s opener.
Mohamed Salah then fired Liverpool into the lead from the spot-kick, but Amad Diallo added his name to the scoresheet for United in the 80th minute.

Manchester United have climbed to 13th place in the league table after Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw against rivals Liverpool.
Ruben Amorim’s men have won only six Premier League matches from their 20 matches played in the campaign, with United level on points with West Ham.
The United manager saw the return of Bruno Fernandes to his starting XI after the Red Devils captain was suspended for the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at home.
Bruno Fernandes was deployed as one of the two No 10s against Liverpool and the United and Portugal midfielder produced a show-stealing performance.
The 30-year-old United skipper has been met with heavy criticism this season amid his run of form and Fernandes finally stepped up at Anfield.
Fernandes picked up a superb assist for Lisandro Martinez’s second-half opener and the Portugal international showed both brilliant attacking and defensive output.

United fans took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and waxed lyrical about the former Sporting CP midfielder’s display on the pitch.
One Red Devils supporter called Fernandes “immense” and another said he was “outstanding,” while others praised him for delivering a true “captain’s performance.”
An X user wrote: “Bruno Fernandes has had an absolute 10/10 performance, BTW.”
“No matter how frustrating he is, we are a lot better with Bruno Fernandes in the team,” a second added.
Another wrote: “This is arguably Bruno Fernandes’ best game under Amorim. Incredible performance.”
While a fourth tweeted: “Bruno Fernandes is on another level. He’s been outstanding.”
Someone else commented: “Bruno Fernandes has been immense. So calm under pressure on the ball. What a match.”
A sixth posted: “Credit where credit is due, that was a captain’s performance from Bruno Fernandes.”
And a seventh said: “Captain Bruno Fernandes! Was just absolutely class as ever! Just need consistency from him, because at his best, he is the heart of our team. Everything starts [with] him. Need him to keep playing this well always!”
