Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has explained the real impact that two Manchester United signings have made since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos team landed them.
Manchester United signed off their 2025-26 season on a high note after Michael Carrick led his side to third place and secured Champions League qualification.
Ineos had a strong transfer window in 2025 after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime brought Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens to the club.
Ratcliffe’s team now has big expectations on their shoulders going into the summer transfer window amid the Red Devils’ need to rebuild their midfield strength.

Gary Neville on why Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were major signings for Man Utd outside of English talent
Both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo ended their respective seasons at Old Trafford by hitting double digits in their goalscoring tallies in the Premier League.
Cunha arrived at Manchester United last June from Wolves in a £62.5m deal, while Mbeumo was signed the following month from Brentford for an initial £65m fee.
Rio Ferdinand sat down with Gary Neville and asked if his fellow United legend felt that the Red Devils were not putting enough investment into English talent.
Former Man Utd captain Neville argued that the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo are strong signings outside of the Red Devils not bringing in more English players.
“Yeah, but I think like the signing of [Robin] Van Persie doesn’t mean it has to be English,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.
“It has to be somebody who’s established in the Premier League that you know is going to deliver for you.
“So, I do like the signings that they made last summer of Cunha and Mbeumo because they had that grounding in the Premier League.
“They weren’t gold, but the removal of risk that they played in the Premier League, they were hungry, they were stepping up a level to a club that they knew, they weren’t stepping down from a club that’s in Europe, that you’re thinking they’re coming for a little bit of a swansong at the end of their career.
“They’re still young and hungry, they’ve got things to prove and they’ve actually shown they can handle the Premier League.”

Outside of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Gary Neville would love to see Cole Palmer at Man Utd
Cole Palmer has been linked with Man Utd in the past and Neville feels that the England and Chelsea star would be the perfect type of signing for the Red Devils.
“So, I do think those types of signings are good, but you’re right, there are very few players that you think you could sign that would be the talk of Cole Palmer,” he added.
“That looks like a signing that could be gold. If he was, you know, if he’d come to Old Trafford, I don’t think it would happen really. I think Chelsea will hang on to him.
“But there are very few signings like that available. They’re like once every four or five years, aren’t they, these types of players become available?”
Cole Palmer is under contract with Chelsea until 2033 and the Blues have reportedly valued the 24-year-old former Manchester City player at a minimum £80m transfer fee.
