Manchester United back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir played a part in Turkey’s momentous victory over Germany at the weekend.
Altay Bayindir showed Manchester United have a very capable back-up to Andre Onana, on a weekend the Cameroon international suffered an injury.
Andre Onana may not miss any time for Manchester United with his injury not thought to be serious, however, Turkish outlet Hurriyet has been asking if Altay Bayindir will now be starting away at Galatasaray later this month.
If Bayindir is needed, Manchester United fans should not fear. The goalkeeper demonstrated at the weekend he can step up in big games, helping Turkey win 3-2 away at Germany.
Altay Bayindir performance levels assessed
Altay Bayindir has not played a single minute for Manchester United since his move to Manchester United on transfer deadline day.
However, it has been claimed by a Turkish television pundit that Bayindir has actually improved since he joined the club.
Mehmet Özdilek, former Turkey assistant coach and manager at various Super Lig clubs, was quoted by Milliyet after their win over Germany, praising the goalkeeper’s performance.
He explained: “I also liked Altay Bayındır. His adventure in England improved Altay’s goalkeeping skills. He has great feet and added value to the game.”
He added: “If we try to explain them one by one, we may be doing an injustice to the players whose names we will forget. Today, there was a group of players who gave everything on the field and enjoyed the game they played. I congratulate them all wholeheartedly.”
Bayindir has impressed Manchester United’s coaching staff in training, report ESPN. He is regarded as a valuable part of the first team squad as he awaits his debut.
Starring in a big international victory can only help his cause. It is good for him to get some game time.

The win was a historic one for Turkey to win away in Germany, and Altay Bayindir was thrilled to play his part, even though it was just a friendly.
He told Haber7 after the win: “It was a good win for us. It feels good to win after 72 years. We already felt like we were at home. Well done to our fans. We are happy! Now there is a match against Wales. We will play for the leadership match there. We will do our best. With the support of our country, we will achieve good things in the championship.
“We are a country that always has goals. Today was a friendly match, but every match is very important. We must treat every match as a life or death match. It is a different feeling to defeat such a team at home.”
Altay has a determination in his approach which could be very valuable if he gets his opportunity at Manchester United. He will be desperate to take his chance when it finally comes his way.
