Tottenham have spoken to Jesse Lingard about possible summer move

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held talks with Jesse Lingard’s representatives about a potential summer move.

The England international doesn’t want to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window, but he only has six months left to run on his current contract.

Following a fruitful loan spell at West Ham which brought nine goals and five assists from 16 Premier League games, during the second half of last season, Lingard was told by United’s former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he would get chances this season.

But United’s number 14 is yet to start a Premier League game this season and has only been given 87 minutes of top-flight action.

His only starts this campaign have come in the Carabao Cup clash against the Hammers and the Champions League dead rubber versus Young Boys.

Aside from that, the most game time Lingard has seen in any other appearance is 24 minutes, which came against Newcastle in September, where he came off the bench to score United’s fourth in a 4-1 win against the Magpies, in what was Cristiano Ronaldo’s homecoming.

Three days later, Lingard came off the bench to gift Young Boys a late winner in Switzerland following an undercut back pass.

But he more than redeemed himself five days later when he came off the bench to smash the ball into the top corner against David Moyes’ side.

Last night’s five-minute cameo appearance in the FA Cup against Aston Villa was Lingard’s first appearance for over a month. The attacking midfielder has featured 13 times this season, but has only amassed 272 minutes, which equates to 20 minutes per appearance.

He is yet to feature in the Premier League under Ralf Rangnick and looks to be way down the German’s pecking order.

It seems nailed on that Jesse Lingard will end his affiliation with Manchester United in the summer and the academy graduate could well link up Antonio Conte’s Spurs in north London on a free transfer.

Conte made a habit of chasing United players while at Inter, signing Matteo Darmian, Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Romelu Lukaku.
