Tottenham express interest in signing Marcus Rashford, who says he wants to stay at United under Ten Hag

The Times reports Tottenham have been rejected in an attempt to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.

Rashford lost his place in the England squad after a tough season, which also saw him lose his regular starting spot at Old Trafford.

This has left a question mark hanging over Rashford’s future, with his contract expiring in 2023, although United have an option to extend his deal to 2024.

Now Tottenham have reportedly expressed interest in the forward.

Tottenham express interest

The report in The Times claims Tottenham “have been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.”

The report adds, “Spurs were told that Rashford would like to stay at United and try to impress Erik ten Hag, who has arrived as head coach.”

It is unclear if Tottenham made a direct enquiry to Manchester United, or to Rashford’s representatives. No formal bid was made.

Rashford is currently on holiday in America after being left out of the England squad, which means he can join Erik ten Hag for the first week of Manchester United’s pre-season training on June 27.

He this week posted a video of him working out in the gym, indicating to arrive back at United in top condition.

Rashford came through United’s academy and has scored more than 80 first team goals for the club, including 43 between 2019 and 2021.

However, last season was hugely disappointing, in which he scored only five times, and failed to make United’s matchday squad for the last game of the season.

Under Ten Hag he hopes for a fresh start, and if he does well, he could earn a contract extension. His willingness to stay and fight for his place is a good sign.
