Manchester United are three games into a five-match pre-season schedule, and one player has really stood out.
Young midfielder Toby Collyer has been one of the big positives from Manchester United’s pre-season so far.
After playing with the second string against Rosenborg and impressing, Toby Collyer was promoted to a starting role against Rangers.
Collyer has impressed manager Erik ten Hag, keeping his starting role for the game against Arsenal.

Toby Collyer glad to play alongside Casemiro
Toby Collyer has started the last two matches alongside Brazilian star Casemiro, a multiple-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid.
While there are questions over Casemiro’s status at the club heading into the final month of the transfer window, he remains a key part of Erik ten Hag’s current system.
Youngster Collyer, 20, singled out Casemiro as a player he has enjoyed getting the chance to play alongside.
He told United’s website: “It’s so valuable. He’s one of the best ever in that position, so it’s great for someone like myself to learn off him.
“Even just to watch him in training and have him next to me, always talking to me and helping me out, as well as the other lads as well. He’s a real leader in the team.”
Collyer growing into his role
Toby Collyer trained with the Manchester United first team regularly last season, and while he is yet to make his competitive debut, it cannot be far away.
With Kobbie Mainoo still on holiday after Euro 2024, and no midfield signings made so far, Collyer has a chance to earn a squad spot.
Some of the work he has done at Carrington has clearly impressed Erik ten Hag, and Collyer did look bright against Arsenal.
While much of the work he has done so far has showcased his defensive work, he demonstrated an ability to run with the ball against the Gunners, with one driving run into the penalty box late in the first half.
