‘To have people like that…’ Morgan Rogers delivers Marcus Rashford Aston Villa debut verdict

Never before has an Aston Villa game been of interest to so many Manchester United fans but that’s exactly what happened when they faced Spurs.

Villa emerged victorious 2-1 but Man Utd fans were the most interested in Marcus Rashford’s debut for Unai Emery’s side.

Rashford came off the bench for a fairly good performance, with fans particularly happy with his effort and desire, not something that was said about him often while he played at Old Trafford.

Despite his latest problems, he arguably enters the Villa squad as its most high-profile player and one with the most pedigree.

Villan prodigy Morgan Rogers had some choice words for Rashford after his debut.

Rashford was on the field when Spurs equalised, coincidentally, through Mathys Tel, who almost joined United in the winter window.

However, he didn’t have much to do for that goal, and in his limited time, he played well and showed glimpses of the player Emery thinks he can become.

After the game, Morgan Rogers was asked about the presence of a player like Rashford on the team and what it could do for the squad.

He said that it was “massive” to have someone like Rashford pushing the squad and raising the team’s floor, driving others to do better.

Rogers said: “It pushes us along, we also want to take what we can from the experienced players in the squad, the things that they’ve done in their career.

“It’s good to take what they’ve done and use it to our advantage and push ourselves, it’s massive to have people like that through the door and in the building and it drives everyone on.”

Man Utd need Rashford to fire

Even before Rashford had kicked a ball for Villa, taunts towards Ruben Amorim had already begun, hinting that it would be embarrassing for him if Rashford does well elsewhere.

However, the reality is that just because he’s doing well in a different environment doesn’t mean Amorim is in the wrong for not getting him in at United.

Instead, United need Rashford to fire and do well because his chances of reintegrating at Old Trafford are effectively zero.

If he does well on loan, United will free up a king’s ransom on the wage bill along with a hefty transfer fee that will go down as pure profit on the books, thereby turbo-charging their summer spending.

He’s made a good start and the dressing room already respects him.
