Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract as England manager to remain in charge until the end of Euro 2028.
Manchester United have until the end of the 2025/26 season to make a decision over who will be the next long-term head coach.
Ruben Amorim was sacked at the beginning of January, with Darren Fletcher standing in for a brief period until Michael Carrick became head coach until the end of the season.
The results have improved with Carrick in the dugout, and his coaching staff have received plenty of praise from players and fans alike, especially Steve Holland.
Who do you think will be Man Utd manager at the start of the 2026/27 season?
🔮 Let us know who you believe will and should be in charge? Who will Ineos appoint?
Carrick has until the end of the season to make a case for himself to land the job permanently, but that won’t stop Ineos from drawing up a list of potential candidates in the meantime.
There have already been several contenders linked with the job, with many already having managed in the Premier League.

Thomas Tuchel new deal raises doubts over Paul Scholes’ Man Utd vision
Thomas Tuchel has long been linked with the United job.
Before United’s FA Cup final win over Man City in 2024, under Erik ten Hag, it was suggested that Sir Jim Ratcliffe had a meeting with Tuchel.
Nothing came of it, but the German coach later took charge of the England national team.
Tuchel remains a popular candidate to become United’s head coach, but the chances of that happening suffered a blow on Thursday.
That’s because Tuchel signed a new deal as England manager until the end of 2024.
This will come as a blow for Paul Scholes, who recently tipped Tuchel as his choice to take charge at Old Trafford, even though one of his former teammates is currently pushing for the job, albeit in an interim capacity.
Scholes doesn’t believe Carrick compares to Tuchel, should they be involved in a shootout for the job this summer, by saying: “He’s [Carrick] come into the job now and it’s been that bad for a year that it couldn’t really get any worse, so the pressure isn’t really on you while you’re interim manager.
“Once you take that job full-time, at the start of the season next year, let’s say, all of a sudden, you’ve got to be winning games straightaway.
“They will be scarred a little bit from the Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] thing. If the Ole thing hadn’t have happened, then it would probably be more likely.
“But if Michael has got to go up against, say, Thomas Tuchel in the summer, then there’s only one winner if you’re looking at coaching big clubs and winning big prizes, so you can’t really compete with that.”
Prove me wrong… Carlo Ancelotti should be Ineos’ top option to become permanent manager this summer!
Do you think Ancelotti would be a success? Do we stand a chance of getting him?
Thomas Tuchel deal will limit Man Utd speculation before World Cup
England will be happy to tie Tuchel down to a new deal because it allows the national team to focus on the upcoming World Cup without being dragged into a saga as United search for a new head coach.
The new deal doesn’t make it impossible for United to hire Tuchel in the summer, but it does show that he is committed to his job at hand – for now.
United have not made a decision yet, but Tuchel’s head may turn if he proves to be the chosen one – regardless of his position as England manager.
Tuchel’s deal will help limit the amount of United speculation that appeared inevitable ahead of the World Cup.
