Reports linking Erik ten Hag with the RB Leipzig job are inaccurate, according to the journalist who recently interviewed the manager.
Dutch outlet AD.nl reported on Sunday that Ten Hag is a candidate for RB Leipzig, a development which could throw a spanner in the works for Manchester United’s pursuit of the Ajax boss.
This has been dismissed by Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger, who branded the links ‘absolutely nonsense’.
Ten Hag gave an interview to Sport1‘s Berger just a fortnight ago, in which he admitted Manchester United were a ‘great club’.
Leipzig changed manager mid-season, sacking Jesse Marsch and replacing him with Dominic Tedesco, and results have significantly picked up.
On Sunday night Leipzig beat Hoffenheim 3-0 to move to fourth in the table, and they are also on course to reach the Europa Leaguse semi-finals.
It seems Leipzig’s links to Ten Hag are based on old enquiries and not anything for Manchester United to panic about.
ESPN Netherlands report Manchester United have decided on Ten Hag as the club’s next manager and will pay his release clause.
However a deal is not yet closed, and while there is not total clarity and official commitment, the danger remains that the Dutchman could get lured elsewhere, to a club which is better run than Manchester United are.
