Erik Ten Hag is the manager Manchester United fans want as the next permanent boss and a potential agreement could be on.
The Mail report Ten Hag has his heart set on United and is brushing up on his English ahead of a move, and has even told Ajax of his intentions.
It is claimed he wants to bring assistant Mitchell van der Gaag with him to Old Trafford, and don’t bet against him looking to sign a player or two in addition to this.
United’s squad requires major work this summer and Ten Hag could benefit from having players he has worked with before, successfully.
Here is a look at five current Ajax players who could join Ten Hag at Manchester United next season…
Exciting Ajax winger Antony has already been linked with a move to United, with 90Min reporting the Red Devils are monitoring him, along with Chelsea and Liverpool.
Ten Hag would give United a clear advantage, and the 22-year-old would be a perfect addition to United’s wide options, providing a potentially unstoppable tandem with Jadon Sancho.
Antony is a skilful winger who has struck 11 goals this season and provided seven assists, and recently also broken into the Brazil squad.
Manchester United need a defensive midfielder and Ten Hag could look to explore a deal for his preferred holding player at Ajax, Edson Alvarez.
The 24-year-old Mexican international has been a key player this season, featuring 29 times. He is currently under contract until 2025 so a deal will not be easy.
Alvarez is vocal on the pitch, communicating to help his teammates with their positioning and movement in Ten Hag’s system, and he could be the leader the Dutch boss needs to implement his style of play.
Netherlands international Ryan Gravenberch has been compared to Paul Pogba and he could be the perfect replacement for the United star.
Landing Gravenberch, 19, would be a real coup, although the fact his agent is Mino Raiola would give United pause.
However, if Gravenberch is a player Ten Hag wants at United, the board will have to oblige and try to do a deal to bring him to Old Trafford.
Noussair Mazraoui will be available on a free transfer this summer with his contract set to expire.
The right-back would strengthen United at a position where the long term future is up for grabs.
The 24-year-old Moroccan has been a goal threat from the position this season, scoring five goals, also providing four assists.
With United needing a striker, Ten Hag will at least be considering Ajax star Sebastien Haller.
Haller may have struggled at West Ham, yet at United in Ten Hag’s system he could be a completely different proposition.
Haller has 30 goals this season already including 11 in the Champions League, plus nine assists, and this is not the type of record which can be easily dismissed.
