Sunderland fans should “enjoy” watching Manchester United loanee Amad while they can, says former Black Cats star Stephen Elliott.

The 20-year-old has well and truly announced himself at the Stadium of Light and Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray has claimed that the four-time Ivory Coast international is keeping the ‘most talented player’ in the Championship out of the team, due to him being “on fire”.

Following his season-long loan move up north, the former Atalanta wonderkid struggled to establish himself in Mowbray’s starting line-up.

But after repeated calls from the former Blackburn Rovers manager for the young Ivorian to become more ruthless and improve his end product – things look to have clicked into place for Sunderland and United’s number 16.

Amad has started the last six Championship games for the promoted Black Cats and in that run of starts he’s produced four goals and one assist.

While Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils have the option of recalling Amad in January, Mowbray has already stressed that he believes that Sunderland, Amad and Manchester United will all benefit from the Ivorian staying at the Stadium of Light for the duration of the 2022-23 campaign.

But former Sunderland striker Elliott has urged the Black Cats to “enjoy” watching the whizkid while they can.

The former Republic of Ireland international doesn’t believe there’s many defenders in the second tier of English football that can “live with” the “electric” forward when he’s “in the mood”.

Speaking via the Sunderland Echo, Elliott said: “Amad Diallo is showing exactly why Manchester United invested so much in him.

“The little winger is electric and when he is in the mood there aren’t going to be many in the Championship who will live with him.

“He got on the scoresheet again and could have had more. I think Sunderland fans need to enjoy him as much as they can because I believe he will be playing in his parent clubs’ team next season.”

After struggling to establish himself as a regular during his spell on loan with Rangers earlier in the year, Amad’s confidence looks sky high, and Mowbray is reaping the rewards for placing his trust in the starlet.

Amad will be hoping to continue his red-hot form when Sunderland host West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.
