Manchester United have had some of the greatest footballers of this century so far, being so good that even rivals have to admit it.
Over the years, Manchester United has often had players who are the envy of the rest of the Premier League.
Despite the recent struggles, United currently has three of the best players in the league, with Bruno Fernandes in particular often heralded as the gold standard.
However, a few years ago, United were the envy of the world, with Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, and David Beckham all English talents who starred on the international stage.
Now, Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, has picked out one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most successful players as the best he’s played alongside.

Steven Gerrard picks Wayne Rooney as his best teammate
While Gerrard is not a voice United fans will frequently value, in this case, the former Liverpool star is worth paying attention to.
Appearing on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, Gerrard was quizzed over several things, with one point seeing the midfielder explain who his best-ever England teammate was.
“Wayne Rooney is the best player I’ve played with for England, hands down. He can do so many things… I don’t see Wayne as a No.9 or a No.10; I see him as an all-round attacker. He could occupy a back four on his own.”
Gerrard speaking so highly about Rooney is no surprise, with both being from Liverpool and therefore often looking friendly in England camps.
This isn’t the first time United legend Rooney has been lauded by an England teammate who played for a rival.

Gerrard’s comments shouldn’t be a shock, with Rooney being arguably England’s best ever player, along with being United’s top scorer.
Additionally, speaking in 2014 as quoted by The Standard, Gerrard admitted Rooney deserved to be England’s record scorer.
“I think it would be fully deserved,” Gerrard said about the 29-year-old.
“For a player of his calibre and for what he’s done for Manchester United, even though it kills me saying it.”
Rooney deserves all the praise he gets, and will continue to get as appreciation of his ability grows.
