Solskjaer offers team news update ahead of United's friendly with Brenford

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has delivered an early team news update ahead of Manchester United’s friendly with Brentford.

United will return to Old Trafford for the first time this pre-season to face the newly-promoted Bees.

He told the club’s website that two players will definitely not be involved – Bruno Fernandes and Dean Henderson.

Solskjaer also said that Diogo Dalot and Donny van de Beek will be involved, most likely as substitutes.

“Dean [Henderson] is back in training which is good for us, he won’t be ready for the Brentford game. Bruno [Fernandes] is back in training. He’s not ready to join the Brentford game, but he’s not too far,” said Solskjaer.

“Diogo [Dalot] and Donny [van de Beek] have trained and they’re ready to play a part in the game, I would think they’ll be subs.

“We’ve got kids wanting to play. They’ve enjoyed the pre-season. We didn’t enjoy the quick succession of the goals we conceded at the start of the second half.

“We’ve looked at it and we need to tighten up a little bit in the shape in front of the back four and, hopefully, we can see that against Brentford.”

Who will play against Brentford?

The update on Henderson means that goalkeeping duties will once again be shared between Tom Heaton and Lee Grant against Brentford.

Dalot’s return means that he will expect to come on in place of Aaron Wan-Bissaka at some point.

He could also fill in at left-back, where Brandon Williams is the only fit and available senior option at present.

Van de Beek will battle the likes of Jesse Lingard for the number ten role, and will be hoping to get an opportunity there before Bruno returns to the side.
