Youri Tielemans is a self-proclaimed Manchester United fan and a move to Old Trafford has always been his goal.

Manchester United are pushing forward with their midfield rebuild with advanced talks for Youri Tielemans, according to David Ornstein.

There is a £35m release clause in Youri Tielemans’ contract at Aston Villa which has reportedly been triggered by the Red Devils.

Ineos have made it a priority to only sign players who are desperate to represent United, and Tielemans certainly ticks that box.

Youri Tielemans has always dreamed of playing for Manchester United

There have been previous links of United’s interest in Tielemans, dating back to his time at Leicester City.

Each time, it has been made clear that Tielemans is keen on the move, and that stems from his childhood support of United.

In fact, back in 2013 when Tielemans was just 16 years old, he confessed that playing for United was always his goal.

As quoted by Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant, a teenage Tielemans said: “It is, of course, my goal to be part of the final squad this season. Is Anderlecht really my dream club? Certainly, although I do like Manchester United as well.”

Reports of United’s interest in Tielemans started just six years later in 2019 when Tielemans was lined up as a potential replacement for Ander Herrera, according to TeamTalk.

Youri Tielemans is following in the footsteps of his role model

In the same interview back in 2013, Tielemans named his footballing role model.

He named former United striker Romelu Lukaku, who also made his breakthrough at Anderlecht.

“My role model? Romelu Lukaku was also sixteen when he made his debut for the first team,” Tielemans said.

Just like Lukaku, who joined United in 2017 and spent two years at Old Trafford, Tielemans is now set to follow in his footsteps and represent the Red Devils (not just on the international stage).
