Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went for experience as Manchester United travelled to face Tottenham.

It was the oldest United side Solskjaer has ever picked, with Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

Solskjaer told Sky Sports after the game that he was pleased with the work of both strikers.

He also said Cavani’s training performance on Tuesday was as good as he has seen in almost three years in the dugout.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

“I’ve been here more or less three years now as manager,” said Solskjaer. “And Tuesday’s training performance from Edinson Cavani was the best anyone has put into a training session here.

“The old men led from the front. They have loads of respect for each other and the workrate and quality they put in is second to none.”

He told MUTV: “Great performance by the two of them together as a pair. Both of them came late, so it’s not something we’ve been able to do before, but the old ones are still usable!”

Marcus Rashford added, speaking also to MUTV: “They are top finishers. Cristiano is always playing on the edge and the link-up play and top finish from Edi is exactly what we need from the strikers. It was a complete performance.”

Cavani’s workrate is exemplary and what Solskjaer said shows his attitude.

United were suffering on Tuesday after the Liverpool thrashing and Cavani responded by putting in his best work in training.

That earned him the start he got here; his first in the Premier League this season.

He took his chance well and he could have had even more goals from two first half chances while the game was tense at 0-0.
