Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered an update on Harry Maguire ahead of the Europa League final.

Solskjaer’s press conference was streamed at 3.30pm on the club’s official app and he was asked about Maguire’s fitness.

He didn’t rule his captain out of the team but said he wouldn’t be able to take a full part in training before the game with Villarreal in Gdansk.

Solskjaer also said that the players will only find out the team tomorrow and Luke Shaw also spoke about his captain’s potential involvement.

“Harry [Maguire] will jog up and down the sideline a bit and he’ll probably try to join in [training],” said Solskjaer.

“We’ll enjoy the last session today and the players will get the team tomorrow.”

Shaw added: “Harry’s here, he’s travelled with us. There’s another session to go and we’ll see how he is.

“We’re hoping he’ll be available but the main focus is for the players who are out there to fit to enjoy the session today and be ready for tomorrow.”

Solskjaer is keeping his cards close to his chest, which is understandable because he doesn’t want to give any clues or encouragement to Villarreal.

Perhaps if Maguire didn’t have Euro 2020 looming, Solskjaer would be tempted to rush him back here, knowing he’d have weeks off to recover.

But it’s a big summer ahead for Maguire and as much as he’ll be desperate to be involved here, it would be a huge risk to rush him back.

Hopefully Maguire is fit to have some involvement in the final training session before the final, and Solskjaer is giving him every chance to prove his fitness.
