Solskjaer backs Pogba's response to 'lies' in the press

Earlier this week, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba hit back at claims he snubbed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Liverpool game.

A report from The Sun claimed Pogba had ignored Solskjaer following the shocking 5-0 loss.

Pogba tweeted about the report and posted about it on his Instagram story, stating it was false.

At his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Tottenham, Solskjaer addressed Pogba’s response.

He joined the criticism of the ‘lies’ he says have been spread about his side in the aftermath of the Liverpool embarrassment.

“I’ve had players coming up to me,” said Solskjaer. “I don’t read social media but for example, Paul came up to me, angry.

“We expect to be criticised. Hands up, the performance wasn’t good enough and we expect it left, right and centre. But we can’t accept when lies are being made up.”

“Paul came up to me and told me what he had put on his social media. We can’t stand for blatant lies. They’ve got to stand up and say so.

“All the opinions and reports are fine but don’t spread lies about the players and me.”

It is open season on United at the moment, with pundits and experts all giving their view on whether Solskjaer should be sacked or which team he should select at Tottenham.

Anything beyond that and it is easy to understand why Pogba, Solskjaer or anyone else would be frustrated.

But the priority is getting results to quell the noise around the club right now, starting against Spurs, a game Pogba is suspended for after his red card against Liverpool.
