Sir Jim Ratcliffe ‘huge fan’ of manager looking for ‘major job’, preference if Ten Hag needs to be replaced at Man Utd

Manchester United face a pivotal weekend with a trip to Anfield the last possible fixture Erik ten Hag wants right now.

Manchester United hold the position that Erik ten Hag‘s job is safe for now, especially while the club’s minority takeover is yet to be 100 per cent concluded.

But there will always be a point where results get ‘too bad’ for any manager, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eventually discovered to his cost.

Jose Mourinho got the boot after a defeat at Anfield on December 17 2018, a fixture five years to the day of Manchester United’s trip to the stadium this weekend.

Current boss Erik ten Hag is a man under a little pressure, with fans dissatisfied after 12 losses to start the season culminated with a Champions League group stage exit this week.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe admires Graham Potter

According to a new report from The Sun, the one manager who Sir Jim Ratcliffe greatly admires is former Brighton boss Graham Potter.

Potter actually handed Erik ten Hag his first defeat in the Dutchman’s opening Premier League game, while at Brighton.

He was then poached by Chelsea, before getting swallowed up by Todd Boehly’s haphazard regime and after being backed, he too fell victim to the adage that ‘eventually results will make a sacking inevitable.’

Ratcliffe is described as a ‘huge fan’ of Potter, who is only interested in returning to management for a ‘major job’.

When the minority takeover goes through, Ratcliffe’s Ineos will have a major say in the appointment of the next manager.

So it makes some sense for the billionaire to be doing some due diligence, if Manchester United’s form continues to slide where a change has to be made.

Potter had a reputation as one of English football’s top managers before flaming out at Chelsea.

While you can write that off as symptomatic of Chelsea’s chaos, Manchester United are a club where the pressure is even greater, and even with reassurances from Ratcliffe, there is no guarantee of success for him at Old Trafford.

Tough run of games upcoming

The match against Bayern Munich was just one part of a chaotic run of games ahead for Erik ten Hag.

Liverpool away follows, then a trip to West Ham and a home fixture with in-form Aston Villa.

Injuries are piling up too with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw failing to complete the game against Bayern, while captain Bruno Fernandes is suspended this weekend.
