Sir Jim Ratcliffe has raised his ownership stake at Manchester United.

In less than one week, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will celebrate one year as the co-owner of Manchester United after his £1.2bn takeover was confirmed last Christmas Eve.

The British billionaire bought a 25 percent stake in the Red Devils but assumed sporting control at Old Trafford with the Glazer family taking a step back.

Gary Neville slammed the “awful” takeover timing last year and Ratcliffe’s first year at the club has not been short of controversy.

It has not been a hugely successful business move, with Ratcliffe’s net worth dropping £4bn in his first 12 months as co-owner.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe invests extra £79m into Man United

Part of Ratcliffe’s takeover deal included a pledge of £237m to be invested in club infrastructure.

According to the Daily Mail, Ratcliffe’s stake in the club has increased to 28.94 percent after he injected a further £79million.

The report claims this latest injection is the final payment towards Ratcliffe’s £237m pledge, meaning the funds are set to be used on infrastructure.

Despite the timing of the announcement, the cash injection is not expected to have any impact on the club’s transfer plans over the January window.

Man United infrastructure improvements under Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Cristiano Ronaldo famously criticised United’s facilities after his exit in 2022, and one of Ratcliffe’s main priorities since becoming co-owner has been off-pitch improvements.

The future of Old Trafford is currently being discussed and Ratcliffe wants to build a new 100,000-seater stadium despite the project reportedly costing as much as £2bn.

A decision on the stadium is expected in 2025, with the task force assembled by Ineos holding their final video call on the subject this week.

One of Ratcliffe’s first actions as owner was to invest £50m in renovations at Carrington which are expected to be complete at the end of the season.

According to the club announcement made back in June, the training ground development will focus on “gym, medical, nutrition, and recovery areas”.
