Aberdeen legend Sir Alex Ferguson considered one man for a key appointment under him at Old Trafford during his reign as Manchester United manager.
Sir Alex Ferguson called it time on his managerial career in 2013 after Manchester United secured their last Premier League title at the end of the 2012-13 season.
The 82-year-old Scotsman first arrived at Old Trafford in 1986 and replaced Ron Atkinson at United after he left Scottish side Aberdeen.
Ferguson weathered a tough start to life at the Premier League club before ushering in a period of dominance over English football, with the Scot hoovering up the silverware.
The legendary former United manager led the Red Devils to all 13 of their Premier League titles and Ferguson also captured two Champions League titles with the club.
Ferguson was also the first manager in history to lead an English team to a continental treble, with United pulling off the feat in the 1998-99 season.

Ferguson snubbed former Man Utd man
Sir Alex Ferguson was on the hunt for a new assistant manager at Manchester United after long-time former coach Brian Kidd left his role in 1998.
David Moyes was early in his managerial career at Preston North End and the Scotsman revealed that Ferguson considered him for his No 2.
Ferguson would ultimately bring in Steve McClaren as Brian Kidd’s replacement at Old Trafford and United would complete a historic treble in 1999.
David Moyes claimed that he was “quite happy” at Preston North End, but the ex-United manager admitted his “disappointment” at not being part of the treble win.
Speaking on the PNE Pod: The Official Preston North End Podcast, he said: “So I was getting lots of opportunities to go into jobs.
“Probably the biggest one was when I was at North End where Sir Alex had asked me to become the number two at that time at Manchester United.
“Well, there was only two of us, me and Steve McClaren, and he chose Steve McClaren.
“But I actually was quite happy because we were doing really well at Preston, going well, team was going well.
“It sounds terrible, the only real disappointment was that year Man United won the European Cup and I’m thinking, my goodness […].”
Moyes turned down two clubs
Despite missing out on becoming Ferguson’s assistant manager, David Moyes would succeed his fellow Scotsman at Old Trafford after the United legend’s retirement.
However, Moyes endured an ill-fated spell at the Premier League club and the former United manager was sacked in 2014 only 10 months into his reign.
The ex-Everton and West Ham boss revealed that he attracted the interest of both Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest when he was at Preston North End.
“Sheffield Wednesday were a Premier League team, had asked me would I take the job,” Moyes said.
“Southampton had met me. Nottingham Forest. It sounds terrible, because it sounds like you’re going behind people’s back but I wasn’t, you know, and in the end, I was really loyal [to Preston].
“Nottingham Forest flew me and met me in Nice to become the manager of Nottingham Forest at the time.”
