Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has highlighted one all-important aspect missing at Old Trafford during his scathing assessment of the Red Devils.

Nemanja Vidic had a sensational impact at Old Trafford under legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson snapped up the United legend in the 2006 January transfer window after the Red Devils agreed a reported £7m deal with Spartak Moscow.

Vidic spent the large majority of his United spell under Ferguson and became a key defensive figure for the iconic Scotsman at Old Trafford.

The 43-year-old Serbian former defender made 300 appearances for the Red Devils and later served as club captain of United.

During his time at Old Trafford, Vidic struck up a remarkable partnership with fellow United legend Rio Ferdinand and the pair excelled in defence for United.

Vidic lifted five Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and three League Cups under Ferguson before the former United manager retired in 2013.

Vidic talks current Man Utd team

Nemanja Vidic played under former Manchester United manager David Moyes at Old Trafford before the Serbian marked his exit from the Red Devils in 2014.

The former Sebria international saw out the remainder of his career with Inter Milan before Vidic called it time on his legendary playing career in 2016.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Vidic admitted that United have “some fantastic players” now and that they have the potential to succeed at Old Trafford.

However, the ex-United defender insisted that United’s players don’t have “pressure at all” and that everyone is “expecting more from them.”

“Honestly, I don’t think it’s [the] pressure [of] playing for Man United. The way Man United fans support the club and the players […],” Vidic said.

“They don’t have pressure at all. Because they’re still behind the players and the coaches.

“I think they need pressure. I think those players, they definitely need pressure. We are all expecting more from them.

“Even now we have some fantastic players. I think my question is more about the characters, resilience, [being] ready to compete, to give extra and compete week in, week out.”

Man Utd legend Vidic on ‘scared’ factor

Vidic argued that the current United team doesn’t face the same experience that he had at Old Trafford, with the Serbian disappointed with the recruitment.

The former United star pointed out that he felt new signings arriving at the club made him “scared” about losing his place and that was a “normal” experience.

“I remember when I was playing for Man United: Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans – [I was thinking] they were coming to take my place,” Vidic added.

“I was scared I was going to lose my place. And that’s normal. If I’m not performing well, they will bring in a new guy. No-one had to tell me that.”
