Manchester United youngster Dan Gore was outstanding in the second half against Lyon.

It’s possible Dan Gore was told at half-time he had 45 minutes to secure a spot on Manchester United’s senior pre-season tour. He came out and played like he was possessed, delivering an all-action performance on and off the ball.

Gore was outstanding, providing the assist for Manchester United’s winner, and was subsequently named in the 31-man tour squad.

It was richly rewarded. The 18-year-old has been highly touted for a while, and along with last week’s game against Leeds, this was his first taste of senior football.

Dan Gore performance

Dan Gore was excellent against Lyon, unafraid to bowl into opponents and knock them off the ball and win it back, while doing so in a controlled way.

The best part about Gore’s game is that while he is tireless and industrious off the ball, when he gets it, he has real quality, an ability to pick a pass.

His tenacity was praised by MUTV co-commentator Ben Thornley, who was very impressed with him.

Thornley said: “There are similarities to Lisandro Martinez. Short in stature but big in heart, commitment, and everything else.”

Fellow pundit Danny Simpson picked him out as one of his two star players, along with Kobbie Mainoo, who impressed in the first half.

Matej Kovar on Gore

Manchester United goalkeeper Matej Kovar praised Gore on MUTV in his post-match interview.

He said: “He’s been brilliant the past few games and he’s also been training very well. The manager sees that as well.”

Gore has earned his place on the tour, where he could get to feature against Real Madrid. That would be quite special.
