Shola Shoretire has sealed a loan move from Manchester United to Bolton Wanderers, the club confirmed.

The 18-year-old has joined Bolton on loan until the rest of the season, and hopes to help the side win promotion to the Championship.

Bolton are fifth in League One and Shoretire could make his debut away at Derby County on Saturday.

This is the first loan move of Shoretire’s career, and is a big step forward in his development.

Shola Shoretire joins Bolton on loan

Shoretire made his Manchester United first team debut in February 2021 when he was just 16, becoming the seventh youngest player in the club’s history.

Despite making a couple of subsequent appearances from the bench, the closest he has come under Erik ten Hag is being an unused substitute.

The injury to Donny van de Beek could have handed Shoretire an opportunity, but Ten Hag has decided that Kobbie Mainoo is a better fit for what he is after.

Shoretire will then better benefit from a loan and a taste of competitive first team football at Bolton, and he is excited to get started.

He told Bolton’s website: “Coming here at 18 I’m transitioning into the men’s game, which is exactly what I needed.

“Hopefully I will have a good loan here and it will put me in a good place.”

Shoretire can use this loan to show he is ready for first team football. Like Amad, he is short in stature, and while this hasn’t held him back at under-21 level, it will be to his benefit if he can make the jump with ease.

The teenager has already trained with his new Bolton teammates ahead of the weekend game.

He is currently United’s top under-21 goalscorer this season with six goals. Last season he provided a combined 20 goals and assists.
