Senne Lammens credits ‘beast’ Man Utd teammate for helping him get in rhythm

Relative to expectations, Senne Lammens is the biggest overachiever at Man Utd this season, and he owes a part of that success to a ‘beast’ teammate of his.

Senne Lammens joined Man Utd as a calculated punt on a young player who could eventually have a future at Old Trafford.

Less than a year since joining, he has leaped past those expectations to insert himself into the conversation for one of the best in the world.

However, his start wasn’t the best at Carrington, which is why he says he’s grateful for his ‘beast’ Man Utd teammate who helped him get in rhythm.

What Paul Scholes said about Senne Lammens before he made his Man Utd debut

“What’s the price? 20 million Euros, that tells me he’s not a top goalkeeper.”

Senne Lammens lauds ‘beast’ Harry Maguire

Senne Lammens started at United so brilliantly from his very first game that it’s easy to forget how he didn’t even play right away after signing.

Amorim kept him on the bench in favour of Altay Bayindir, and the Belgian accepted that he had trouble getting to grips with the training intensity and the league.

He also didn’t arrive in the best of circumstances, as injuries and coaching upheaval made it a revolving door of changes around him.

Now that things have settled down, he is showing new levels to his game every week, a part of which is down to Harry Maguire being in front of him in defence.

He said [via The Athletic]: “At the beginning of the season, there were a couple of players injured and a couple of defenders coming in and going out. It was difficult to get the rhythm.

“The last couple of games have been better as well. For example, with (centre-back) Harry Maguire in front of me, he is also a beast, so it’s always nice to have him there.”

Lammens’ story is a template for Ineos with senior players

Maguire is the latest player to have been credited by Lammens for helping him settle at the club, but he’s not the last one.

Is Senne Lammens actually Manchester United’s best signing of the season?

He has already spoken multiple times about the impact Tom Heaton has had on him, as United gave him the locker next to Heaton in the dressing room.

Heaton is a huge dressing room presence, and with Maguire also set to sign an extension, Lammens’ success story is becoming a template for Ineos.

Signing young players is fine, but they also need to be professionals, and arrive in a dressing room that has plenty of experienced players to set the tone.

It was the philosophy on which Sir Alex Ferguson built his greatest teams, but it has been lost somewhat in recent times as every club chases “the next big thing”.

The importance of older players is equally as much in a dressing room as Lammens wouldn’t have got his feet sorted so quickly without the help of Maguire and Heaton.
