The Manchester United hierarchy are hoping to conclude three important contract talks before the end of the 2025/26 season.
Following his resurgence under Michael Carrick, Kobbie Mainoo is in talks for a new deal to cement his long-term future at Manchester United.
Harry Maguire also confirmed contract talks with United following his impressive 2025/26 campaign. The England international is expected to sign a one-year extension.
But The Athletic have now confirmed that experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton is in talks for a new extension of his own.

Should Manchester United be extending Tom Heaton’s contract?
The goalkeeper will be 40 by the end of this season…
Man Utd prepared to extend Tom Heaton contract
The report claims that Heaton is in talks for another one-year extension, which would take his second spell at Old Trafford to six years.
Heaton returned to United in 2021 after an initial spell with the Red Devils between 2005 and 2010 after he graduated from the club’s academy.
Heaton has adapted to a unique role behind the scenes that goes beyond just playing on the pitch.
“As a senior player, and someone who signed at 11, left aged 24 and came back at 35, the values of this football club are ingrained inside me and I want to make sure that new players who come into the building have an understanding of what the club means to the fans, what the traditions are, what the values are, as well as accepting that it also requires a period to evolve,” Heaton said.

Tom Heaton has vital dressing room role at Man Utd
With United already losing Casemiro this summer as one of the most experienced members of the squad, it’s important that other veterans don’t head for the exit.
Heaton helps to keep United’s dressing room in order as an influential figure in the squad.
Jason Wilcox heaped praise on Heaton for the leadership and experience that he brings behind the scenes. It is no surprise that he keeps getting handed contract extensions.
Considering that United are expected to have a big summer transfer window in 2026, Ineos likely want him around to help settle new signings into the club.
