Senne Lammens’ display vs the USA proves he’s now done the same thing for Belgium and Man Utd

Senne Lammens has taken massive leaps this season for Man Utd, and his performance for Belgium shows he’s solving the same problem for both club and country.

Less than a year since joining Man Utd, Senne Lammens has exceeded the most optimistic predictions for his career at Old Trafford so far.

Lammens has been a breath of fresh air at United, and that form has since been rewarded with an international debut for Belgium in November last year.

However, after his latest performance vs the USA, it’s clear that he’s solved the same issue for club and country, sparking a bold conversation in the process.

Senne Lammens repeats Man Utd narrative with Belgium

As good as Lammens has been, he only received a chance against the USA because of Courtois’ injury, but he took full advantage of it.

Belgium’s goalkeeping ranks are world-class due to Courtois, but the strength in depth left a lot to be desired before Lammens came into the picture.

Nobody is displacing Courtois for Belgium, especially this close to the World Cup, but Lammens has just confirmed that he’s the first in line when Belgium transition after the World Cup.

Just as he received one chance at Old Trafford and never relinquished the No. 1 position to Altay Bayindir again, he has started breathing down the neck of Courtois.

For both club and country, Lammens has made the most of his chance and made himself undeniable.

The only difference is that he’ll have to wait a bit at the international level, but to even be in the conversation with Courtois after less than a year at United is remarkable.

He has changed the narrative around Man Utd’s transfers.

Lammens’ success is powering a Man Utd narrative shift

It is poetic that a club known for wasting billions in the transfer market can now point to Lammens.

Ineos’ quietest summer signing from unheralded Antwerp has transformed into their loudest success, and it’s something that powers a narrative shift.

Is Senne Lammens actually Manchester United’s best signing of the season?

United’s trust in Lammens, and the way the player has repaid that trust, is what United can present to potential young players in the future.

The club’s record with buying and developing hidden gems is far from ideal, but Lammens can now stand as an unqualified success story.

Ineos can point to him and say that if you have the right mentality and determination to go with the ability, then your previous profile doesn’t matter.

United will trust players who perform, regardless of where they come from, how much they cost, and who is the player they replace.

The effects of Lammens’ success will be felt off the pitch as strongly as they’re being felt on it.
