Manchester United are set to confirm the appointment of new assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy to the club.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of two new incoming additions to the Manchester United coaching staff, along with outgoing Go Ahead Eagles manager Rene Hake.

Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad has reported that Van Nistelrooy will be signing a two-year deal with United.

It is expected to be confirmed on July 8, with the players returning for pre-season.

Van Nistelrooy talks with Zirkzee

Former teammate Rio Ferdinand has talked up how Ruud van Nistelrooy will benefit current striker Rasmus Hojlund.

And he won’t be the only forward working with Van Nistelrooy at Carrington.

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

And according to The Mail, Ruud van Nistelrooy has already held talks with Zirkzee, who will soon be signing for the club.

Zirkzee has made Manchester United his first choice, with Caught Offside claiming he has snubbed interest from Arsenal.

Whether talks with Van Nistelrooy were a factor, is unclear, but it is reasonable to suggest he will have been attracted by the prospect of linking up with the Dutch legend.

Zirkzee fills key squad role for Manchester United

Manchester United’s squad numbers list shows the club do not currently have a number nine, following Anthony Martial’s release.

Signing a striker to share the load with Rasmus Hojlund is essential, and its important United push this deal through.

Zirkzee is a very different type of striker to Hojlund, and the move gives United’s attack more variety and unpredictability.

He is one of a number of deals United need to do, with Zirkzee’s Dutch teammate Matthijs de Ligt expected to follow him to Old Trafford.
