Ruben Amorim will not replace Jose Mourinho as Benfica manager.
In January, Ruben Amorim was sacked by Manchester United following a disappointing 14-month spell at Old Trafford.
Amorim has been out of work since then, but he has been linked with a move to Benfica as Jose Mourinho closes in on a return to Real Madrid this summer.
The former United head coach spent 9 years at Benfica as a player and has been widely tipped to return to the club as manager.

Ruben Amorim denies Benfica talks
It was reported that Benfica had entered talks with Amorim over their imminent vacancy.
Amorim is not the only coach with Premier League experience linked with the Benfica job, as Fulham’s Marco Silva is also seen as a leading candidate. The Portuguese coach is out of contract at Craven Cottage at the end of the season.
However, a reunion for Amorim at Benfica has been dismissed by the AS1 agency, while expressing the 41-year-old’s desire to continue working abroad.
A statement from Benfica read, as per Ben Jacobs: “Ruben Amorim made the decision a long time ago to pursue his career abroad. Therefore, he has not met with any Portuguese clubs to discuss working conditions, structure, squad, salary, or anything else.
“Anything said beyond this is mere speculation and does not correspond to reality.”
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Amorim, whether he will return to the Premier League or move to Spain or Italy.

Amorim was successful at Sporting CP before moving to United.
Across four years at Sporting, Amorim won two league titles. He also built a side capable of competing in the Champions League.
He became recognised as one of the brightest coaches in the game at Sporting, but was unable to back that up at United.
Although he reached the 2025 Europa League final with United, there was no trophy lift in Bilbao because United lost to Tottenham.
