Rio Ferdinand has suggested that one Premier League player who has “made it clear he wants to leave” should be on Manchester United’s radar for Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim is now focused on the return of Manchester United’s crucial Europa League campaign and the Red Devils’ trip to France for Thursday’s clash.

United are set to meet Ligue 1 outfit Lyon at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais for their first-leg quarter-final tie in the Europa League, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time.

The Red Devils will then host Lyon at Old Trafford on 17th April in the return leg and United manager Amorim will be hopeful of his side reaching the semi-finals.

United’s Europa League campaign remains Amorim’s last chance of lifting major silverware this season and for the Red Devils to secure Champions League football.

The Red Devils were last in action on Thursday and United and Manchester City played out a 0-0 Premier League draw at Old Trafford in the Manchester derby.

Rio Ferdinand wants Man Utd to complete transfer swoop of Wolves star Matheus Cunha for Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim is expected to begin a major overhaul of the Manchester United first-team squad at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and in the summer window.

The 40-year-old former Sporting CP boss inherited his Red Devils side from Erik ten Hag last November after his predecessor was sacked as United boss last October.

Rio Ferdinand has a four-man United shortlist of signings that he wants to see and the Red Devils legend is an admirer of Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

Matheus Cunha is under contract with Wolves until 2024 and the 25-year-old Brazilian forward has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and United.

The Brazil international reportedly has a release clause of £62.5m and TNT Sports pundit Ferdinand thinks that Cunha fits Amorim’s tactical system at United.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the United legend said: “Another one I’d buy is Cunha.

“He’s made it clear he wants to leave; I would buy him if I was Manchester United.

“Cunha for one of those No 10 positions would be great because he’s a really dynamic player.”

Matheus Cunha is the perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for Man Utd and Rio Ferdinand is spot on with his take

Amorim has remained firm on using his tactical system at Old Trafford, with United pivoting to a three-man backline under the former Sporting CP head coach.

The United manager has seen a mixed set of results under his blueprint and Amorim has stuck with his principles amid calls for him to pivot away from his system.

Amorim is trying to make the system work with players who might not be suited to it, but the Portuguese coach has shown that it could eventually work for United.

Patrick Dorgu was brought in during the January transfer window and the 20-year-old Danish defender has impressed at times as a wing-back in the formation.

Amorim still needs to work out his best options for the two No 10s in the team and, as Ferdinand spotlighted, Matheus Cunha would be a “dynamic” option in that role.
