Ruben Amorim says something he ‘complained’ about all the time at Man Utd is not an issue anymore

Manchester United’s Premier League season is in tatters but there’s the potential to win two trophies this season, one of which will be at stake in their next fixture.

Man Utd host Leicester City and Ruud van Nistelrooy in the FA Cup seeking to exorcise the demons of playing at Old Trafford, having lost five of their last seven.

Generally, for Ruben Amorim, the cups and Europe have been a safe haven from routinely below-par league displays so he will be hopeful about the game.

Especially because, by his own admission in the lead-up to the game, a problem he complained about all the time is not an issue anymore.

Ruben Amorim’s complaint resolved

With the transfer window in the rearview mirror, Amorim can finally work with the players at his disposal with a sense of clarity and direction.

Marcus Rashford’s loan exit to Aston Villa has also got rid of the specter looming over every Amorim interaction with the press so that’s something big.

Still, knowing the media, the focus of questions is just likely to change from “Why is he not playing?” to “What do you think about his form at Villa?”.

However, Amorim admitted in the press conference before the Leicester game that another one of his major complaints is now resolved. One look at the fixture list makes it clear what it is – lack of time on the training pitch.

He said: “We are taking some risks, but this is the way we want to proceed, we want to win some games, we have time to train because I’m always complaining, improve the players, I want certain types of players with a different profile and we are changing right away.”

Amorim has repeatedly stressed that he hasn’t had enough time on the pitch to train with the team and that is slowing down the process of imparting his philosophy.

That will no longer be the case in February.

Man Utd can get into their stride in February

It is impossible to remember when was the last time Manchester United finished a month with only five fixtures but that’s the prospect facing them in February.

The Leicester game is the first of three fixtures that comes with a break of a full week, a prospect Ruben Amorim will be salivating at.

Amorim had stressed United needed to avoid extra Europa League games by finishing in the top eight and the result of that is clear to see on the calendar.

The Man Utd manager has shown in games against Liverpool and Arsenal that he can work his magic if he’s not forced into a cycle of match prep->recovery->match prep.

February can be the month when Man Utd truly get into a stride as Amorim can spend time on the training pitch to get them moving in the right direction.
