Ruben Amorim is missing out on Man Utd detail that clicked into place under Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra claims

Patrice Evra is convinced that Michael Carrick is fully tapping into the Manchester United first-team squad in a way that Ruben Amorim could not at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim is currently a free agent after the 41-year-old Portuguese coach was sacked from his role as Manchester United manager back in January.

The former United head coach had been in charge at Old Trafford for 14 months after he left Sporting CP and replaced Erik ten Hag in the dugout in 2024.

Amorim’s fractured relationship with the Ineos regime played a key part in his undoing at the Premier League club during the 2025-26 campaign.

Patrice Evra thinks Ruben Amorim’s signings are now shining more under Michael Carrick at Man Utd

Ineos had backed Ruben Amorim heavily in the 2025 summer transfer window after Manchester United’s disastrous 2024-25 Premier League season at Old Trafford.

The former Sporting CP head coach saw a boost to his attacking options with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha all being signed.

Amorim also received a new shot-stopping option at Old Trafford after the Red Devils brought Senne Lammens to the Premier League club last September.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Patrice Evra argued that the potential of Amorim’s signings from 2025 had finally been ‘unlocked’ by Michael Carrick.

“Do we need someone to win straight away? Do we have the players to win the Premier League? That’s what I mean,” he said.

“Amorim, every player he bought, now we see the quality of those players, so Carrick is doing a good job with them. Give him a chance.”

Michael Carrick’s tactical tweaks at Man Utd have offered freedom to Ruben Amorim’s signings and other players

Amorim’s contentious tactical system at United limited the former Sporting manager from being more pragmatic with his team selection and approach in matches.

The former Man Utd manager could end up playing players out of their preferred positions to accommodate the set-up of his Red Devils tactical system.

However, Carrick’s United tactics immediately pivoted away from Amorim’s approach and the Red Devils legend tapped into all areas of his squad at Old Trafford.

Benjamin Sesko has been one example of a Man Utd player who has thrived since Amorim’s January departure after being a key attacking option for Carrick.
