Senne Lammens has an idea for why Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes shows his raw emotions after the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday.
Bruno Fernandes played a key role in Manchester United’s Premier League encounter against Chelsea after setting up Matheus Cunha for the first-half opener.
Matheus Cunha’s strike would prove to be the difference-maker on Saturday evening, with Man Utd walking away from the Chelsea match with all three points.
Fernandes also took his impressive Premier League assist tally to 18 from 30 matches in the 2025-26 season after his stunning run of form continued.

ANOTHER assist for Bruno Fernandes! Surely now he breaks the record!!!
Senne Lammens says Bruno Fernandes’ character as Man Utd captain is the reason behind the Portugal star’s behaviour
Bruno Fernandes has notched up an impressive 11 Premier League assists from the last 12 matches under Red Devils interim head coach Michael Carrick this season.
The 31-year-old Man Utd captain is now only two assists away from equalling the Premier League record held by both Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne at 20.
Speaking after Man Utd’s 1-0 win over Chelsea, Senne Lammens was asked about the role that Fernandes has had as Red Devils skipper in the dressing room.
Lammens admitted that Fernandes being “very hard on himself” and others around him could be the reason for the United captain’s visible ‘frustrations’ on the pitch.
“I mean it’s the way I like it to be honest,” he told The National.
“He’s not always the most vocal. He listens when he needs to, especially before big games or when we have maybe more difficulties.
“He’s also someone who’s very, very hard on himself and on everybody else. That’s why maybe sometimes he can look a little bit frustrated when it’s not going our way, but that’s also the way it has to be at this level, because he wants to win Champions Leagues and he wants to win the Premier League.
“So that’s what he’s thinking about and that’s what he tries to give us as well and tries to take us to his level. So yeah, he’s a leader on and off the pitch.”
Manchester United vs Chelsea: How confident are you feeling?
Senne Lammens on the major positive of Bruno Fernandes’ Man Utd captaincy at Old Trafford
Lammens was able to keep his sixth Premier League clean sheet of the 2025-26 season from 27 appearances after his arrival at Old Trafford last summer.
The Man Utd No 1, who impressed against Chelsea, added that Fernandes had a meaningful impact on him after his transfer from Royal Antwerp in 2025.
“Also, like personally, he was always very nice to me when I came in here in the first days, he was always open arms to me, so it’s always a nice feeling when it comes from such an important player and most especially from the captain,” Lammens continued.
United will now return to Premier League action at Old Trafford next Monday and the Red Devils will host Brentford for a late 8pm kick-off time in the UK.
