Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has already issued his first warning to a Red Devils player.

Speaking in Portugal after Sporting’s win over Braga, Ruben Amorim was told Bruno Fernandes was excited for him to take over.

Amorim issued a warning, assuring Fernandes that he may not enjoy every moment, alluding to the intense demands he will place on the Manchester United squad.

United need Amorim’s fresh ideas, it’s time to move on from the Erik ten Hag era, with the club rooted in 13th place in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes an asset for United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has returned to form, scoring four goals in four games under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Fernandes had struggled to make an impact in front of goal early in the season, and United legend Rio Ferdinand believes he was not being used correctly under Erik ten Hag.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand lauded Fernandes as one of the ‘best in the world’, numbers backed up by him leading Champions League and Europa League matches for assists since joining United in 2020.

He pointed out how Erik ten Hag’s transition-heavy tactics were not suited to Fernandes’ strengths.

Fernandes said: “You’re not going to get the best out of Bruno is when it’s a transition game, when it’s up and down, then he’s having to take more risks with the ball, and less chance of him putting people in.

“If you can give him more looks around the box, but maintain that area and territorial advantage, you’re going to have you’ve got a player as one of the best in the world in those areas, and create chances, the stats don’t lie and your eyes don’t lie.”

Owen Hargreaves backs Fernandes for key role

Ferdinand’s fellow 2008 Champions League winner Owen Hargreaves believes Fernandes will be promised a key role under Ruben Amorim, and agrees he needs to simplify his game to focus on his strengths.

Hargreaves explained: “Maybe sometimes he was trying to do other people’s jobs because they weren’t doing it, going to get the ball in midfield, but they need him up there as a number 10.

“I think obviously Ruben Amorim coming in, he’s gonna say, ‘Look, we’re gonna run through you, but I need you in and around the box.”

Fernandes is currently on 83 goals during his Manchester United career, overtaking Eric Cantona on 82.

His 83rd came in the victory over Leicester City, his landmark 250th appearance for the club.
