Ruben Amorim is preparing for his role at Manchester United as an eventful final week with Sporting continues.
Ruben Amorim’s previous match as Sporting boss against Manchester City ended in a 5-0 defeat, and so this week’s game against Pep Guardiola threatened to be an uncomfortable fixture, especially with his exit already announced.
If anything, Amorim’s departure made Sporting more determined, and they came up against City at the right time, after two successive losses. Sporting made it three in a row, beating them 4-1, inflicting one of Guardiola’s worst defeats as manager.
Now, with one match remaining against Braga, Amorim’s attention will soon be fully on Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim plans to focus
Ruben Amorim played down his big win over City, insisting that it was just one match.
Even before the game, he quipped United fans would think he was the next Sir Alex Ferguson if he beat City.
After the 4-1 win over City, Amorim clarified his comments, telling O Jogo: “I say again, that was a joke.”
Amorim did take a more serious tone, pledging to do what he did during his initial spell as Sporting boss, and cut himself off from the media.
He explained: “I will not read anything for six months, I did that at Sporting. I already know how things are, it is the only way to do my job well.”
Amorim dealt with scrutiny at Sporting
Ruben Amorim is used to the attention. When he took over as Sporting boss, there were lots of questions due to his limited experience, young age, and strong connections to Lisbon rivals Benfica, where he won three titles as a player.
Amorim has explained how he shut out the noise, focusing on the task at hand, and was able to win over his doubters through his team’s performances on the pitch.
Manchester United is a whole new ball game, with worldwide attention, yet in one way, the Lisbon rivalry made Amorim’s task very difficult in it’s own way.
Amorim has his approach that works in order to help him feel focused and comfortable, and this will be invaluable when he starts at Manchester United, and the pressure begins to build.
