Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim took a page out of the playbook of Sir Alex Ferguson after he was asked about the pressure that he faces at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim became the sixth permanent head coach at the Red Devils since Sir Alex Ferguson bowed of Manchester United as manager in 2013.

The 40-year-old United manager left Sporting CP and arrived at Old Trafford last November to succeed Erik ten Hag at the Premier League club.

Erik ten Hag’s reign as Red Devils boss at Old Trafford came to an end last October after United’s poor start to the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

Amorim has faced a tall order at United since he inherited Ten Hag’s squad and the former Sporting CP boss has overseen a mixed set of results.

United have progressed in both the Europa League and the FA Cup under Amorim, but the Red Devils have continued to struggle in their Premier League season.

Amorim hits back over pressure at Man Utd

Manchester United languish in 15th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have only managed eight league wins from 26 matches.

Ruben Amorim’s men are only 13 points clear of 18th-place Ipswich Town ahead of hosting Kieran McKenna’s side at Old Trafford for their clash on Wednesday.

United are 14 points adrift from the Premier League top four and all their hopes of landing a Champions League spot relies on winning the Europa League trophy.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim was asked about his struggles at Old Trafford and the United head coach made his feelings clear.

The former Sporting manager channelled his inner Sir Alex Ferguson by immediately shutting down the idea that he was feeling the “pressure” as United boss.

“Since I arrived, when I took the job, I expected to win all the games at home,” Amorim said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“I don’t feel the pressure, the supporters are amazing and every time you go to one game at Old Trafford you feel the support until the end.

“It is a new game, can be a new story so let’s go forward for the game.”

Man Utd boss Amorim on criticism

United have won one of their last five Premier League matches ahead of facing Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town side in the league on Wednesday evening.

Ipswich, on the other hand, have lost four of their last five league matches and McKenna’s men are five points adrift from climbing out of the relegation zone.

Amorim accepted the criticism that he has faced, but the United manager remains firm on his convictions and is still adamant that he can turn the ship around.

“I understand all the criticism, if you watch the game, you have to try and change that,” he said.
