Ruben Amorim set the record straight on Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United star was left as an unused substitute against Newcastle on Monday evening.
Manchester United fell to their third consecutive Premier League defeat under Ruben Amorim after a woeful performance from the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
Eddie Howe’s men outclassed United in the first half and Newcastle played the Red Devils off the park, with the Magpies 2-0 up only 20 minutes into the match.
Alexander Isak opened the scoring inside five minutes at Old Trafford before Joelinton doubled Newcastle’s lead in the 19th minute of the contest.
Amorim’s side were left chasing the match and the Red Devils fought back in the second half, but United struggled to make any real impact against Newcastle.
United have lost four matches across all competitions since their 2-1 comeback win against Manchester City in the Manchester derby at the Etihad earlier this month.

Amorim’s response to Rashford question
Ruben Amorim made the big call to bring Marcus Rashford back into his Manchester United squad for Monday’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford has not played for United since he was pulled off in the second half of the 2-1 Europa League comeback win against Viktoria Plzen earlier this month.
Amorim dropped the 27-year-old United star from his squad for the Manchester City match and Rashford’s Old Trafford future had been plunged into serious doubt.
Rashford had broken his silence over Amorim’s decision to drop him and the England international has hinted that he would be open to a move away from United.
The Three Lions star made the bench for the Newcastle clash, but United manager Amorim did not call upon Rashford when his side were chasing the match.
Speaking after the match, Amorim made his feelings clear on why Rashford did not come off the bench and hinted that the player’s return could happen soon.
“Every player on the bench is close to going on the pitch,” he told the BBC, as per BBC Sport.
Amorim on Man Utd and relegation threat
United are 14th in the Premier League table after 19 league matches and the Red Devils are only seven points above the relegation zone.
Amorim was asked about the threat of relegation and the former Sporting CP manager has sent a clear warning about the reality of the situation at United.
“I think that it is a possibility and we have to be clear with our fans,” he said.
“We have to change something but this season will be really hard on everybody. It can make us stronger and we have to fight.”
