Manchester United legend Roy Keane received an immediate response from Gary Neville after making a frank admission about his former club teammates on one occasion.
Manchester United Women star Mary Earps scooped the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award on Tuesday ahead of Stuart Broad and Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
The 30-year-old United Women No 1, who is out of contract next summer, won the Golden Glove at the 2023 Women’s World Cup as England fell short in the final.
During a Christmas edition of the Stick to Football show, Jill Scott, Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher, Neville and Keane touched on Earps’ win at the BBC’s award show.
Scott brought up that Keane had told her about one particular instance of an award win, with the Sky Sports pundit’s admission shocking the likes of Wright and Scott.

Keane’s award admission to Wright and Scott
Keane, who shut down Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk recently, enjoyed incredible success as United captain and amassed an incredible trophy haul in his career.
The 52-year-old Irishman also scooped several individual honours in his prolific run at Old Trafford, including two Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards.
However, Keane admitted that on one such occasion when he won the Player of the Year award that “none” of his teammates at United attended the ceremony.
“Yeah. Listen, obviously, I’ve got the other side of that,” he said on The Overlap.
“I’ve obviously won many awards, I won Player of the Year, but none of my teammates were there.”
Wright and Scott were stunned by Keane’s claim and both turned to Neville, with the pair quizzing the United legend on why nobody attended his award win.
Keane remained in top form and hilariously turned to Wright and suggested that Neville would “find” a reason as to why nobody showed up at the time.
“Gary will find one. Don’t worry. He’ll find one,” he said, before Neville laughed at Keane’s response.
Neville’s reaction to Keane’s United claim
Neville, who recently spoke about one United star’s struggles this season, wasted no time in trying to explain why players wouldn’t have attended Keane’s award win.
Keane commanded respect among his United teammates and the legendary ex-Red Devils captain was highly thought of during his career and long after it.
Neville insisted that there would have been a “reason” why players weren’t there to support Keane and couldn’t stress enough the loyalty they had for their teammates.
Responding to Keane’s claim, he said: “There will be a reason. There will be a reason why we didn’t go. We always went to support our teammates.”
Keane, who opened up on his career post-United recently, went on to say that individual awards don’t matter and that the “team game” was more important.
“But anyway, you’re in a team anyway,” he added.
“It doesn’t matter about individual awards, does it? It’s a team game, remember that.”
