Roy Keane dropped his clearest Premier League prediction for Man Utd as ‘main thing’ claim is made

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has made his feelings perfectly clear on whether or not the Red Devils can still mount a Premier League top-four challenge.

The Red Devils won four consecutive Premier League matches in February before they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford.

Manchester United suffered a further setback in their pursuit for a top-four finish after their 3-1 defeat to crosstown rivals Manchester City at the Etihad this month.

However, Erik ten Hag’s men bounced back from their consecutive Premier League defeats with a 2-0 win against Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League table with 10 league matches remaining, with the Red Devils eight points adrift from fourth-place Aston Villa.

Tottenham, who are currently fifth in the league table, received a major boost in their top-four pursuit with a thumping 4-0 win over 10-man Aston Villa on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s men also have a Premier League match in hand over United and Aston Villa.

Roy Keane talks Man Utd top-four challenge

Speaking on Sky Sports (via the Metro), Roy Keane admitted that Aston Villa had suffered a major setback while Tottenham had secured a “big result.”

The Manchester United legend, who named Spurs as one of the two teams he supports, has said it might be a “bit of a stretch” for the Red Devils to finish fourth.

“I think that confidence [at Spurs], that momentum when you have players coming off the bench scoring goals,” Keane said.

“That feel-good factor that goes into winning games of football. It’s a setback for Villa and a big result for Spurs.

“I’m not sure really, we’re talking about top four or top five but the main thing for United is to be consistent and to keep winning football matches, and hoping they [Spurs and Villa] slip up obviously.

“If that fifth place is available…I think it’s a bit of a stretch to catch Villa for fourth. They have to keep winning football matches.”

Man Utd’s Premier League top-four challenge over?

United could still finish in the Premier League top four if they avoid defeat and hope for both Villa and Tottenham to drop points along the way.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side face an uphill battle to climb into the top four and ensure their place in the Champions League this season.

United’s season is far from done due to their FA Cup campaign, with the Red Devils facing Liverpool in the quarter-finals on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is keen for the Red Devils to lift major silverware this season, but United will have to overcome an in-form Liverpool to secure their place in the semi-finals.
