Marcus Rashford is a strange player

Scorer of the quite brilliant first – Marcus Rashford had a game of severe highs and lows. The strike inside the first 10 showed that he still can produce moments of world-class brilliance, but for the rest of the game, he was obsolete.

He almost looked scared of Kyle Walker. The English full-back bullied him all game. In particular, in the build-up to Phil Foden’s first goal.

We know what he can do, but these moments of class need to turn into full performances. He’s far too inconsistent.

Andre Onana is getting better and better

The Cameroonian shot-stopper hasn’t had the easiest start to life at Old Trafford, but as of late, he’s been performing really well.

The same can be said about his performance against the Cityzen’s. He was a major catalyst in United staying in the game for so long.

He maybe could’ve done a bit better with Foden’s second, but otherwise – it was a solid outing.

Phil Foden is phenomenal

The different maker on the day was Phil Foden. He was simply electric.

Foden, although not deemed on the same level as Erling Haaland or Kevin De Bruyne – probably should be.

The Stockport lad grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and once again caused the Red Devils nightmares.

Erik ten Hag did get his tactics right

Manchester United set up in a way we haven’t seen this season, and despite the result – Erik ten Hag was absolutely right to set up like this.

United were never going to go to the Etihad and be the team with more possession, so defending deep and trying to counter was 100% the correct game plan.

It worked for a very good while – but sadly when City have a player of Foden’s quality, he can score goals from nothing.

Squad depth due to injuries cost Manchester United

Manchester United had one of their worst benches in a good while against City. There were hardly any names that could come on and make an immediate impact.

Injuries have really knackered the Red Devils, but it was particularly prominent to see in this fixture.

United really missed Rasmus Hojlund. If he was playing, it may have been a different result on derby day.
